Louvre Abu Dhabi will be opened on November, 11th and will be the first museum of its kind in the arab world: a universal exposition that focuses on the human stories shared across different cultures and civilizations. It was designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel. as a museum city (the medina in Arabic) under a wide silver dome. Its promenade overlooking the sea will be topped by a dome of 180 meters, consisting of nearly 8,000 single metal stars embedded in a complex geometric design, that when crossed by the sun rays will create a sort of “rain of light” evoking the palm leaves in the oases of the United Arab Emirates.
Inside there will be an important collection of art works of artifacts of the museum covering the whole human existence, from prehistoric to contemporary art works. In addition to the permanent galleries, the museum will also host temporary exhibitions, a department dedicated to children, an auditorium, a restaurant, a boutique and a café.
The history of the Louvre Abu Dhabi began in the “big hall” where visitors are introduced to important themes such as maternity and funeral rites. The chronological and thematic galleries will be divided into 12 chapters. The exhibition will expose works of the early empires, including the first figurative representations as the Princess of Bactria, made in Central Asia at the end of the III millennium.a.C., funeral practices of ancient Egypt with works such as the complex of the princess Henuttaui sarcophagus and the birth of new economies with the Decadramma of Syracuse, a coin made by the artist Eveneto.

Il Louvre Abu Dhabi sarà inaugurato il prossimo l’11 novembre e rappresenterà il primo museo del suo genere nel mondo arabo: un’esposizione universale che si concentra su storie umane condivise attraverso civiltà e culture, progettato come una città-museo (medina araba) sotto una vasta cupola argentata dall’architetto francese Jean Nouvel. Le sue promenade che si affacciano sul mare saranno sovrastate da una cupola di 180 metri, composta da quasi 8.000 singole stelle metalliche incastonate in un complesso disegno geometrico che quando sarà attraversato dai raggi del sole creerà una sorta di “pioggia di luce” in movimento che evoca le foglie degli alberi di palma nelle oasi degli Emirati Arabi Uniti.
Al suo interno sarà esposta un’importante raccolta di opere d’arte e reperti del museo che coprono la totalità dell’esistenza umana: dagli oggetti preistorici alle opere d’arte contemporanee. Oltre alle gallerie permanenti, il museo avrà anche spazi per mostre temporanee, un museo dedicato ai bambini, un auditorium, un ristorante, una boutique e una caffetteria.
La storia del Louvre Abu Dhabi inizia nel “Grande Atrio” dove i visitatori vengono introdotti dentro importanti temi quali maternità e riti funerari. Le gallerie sia cronologiche che tematiche, saranno suddivise in 12 capitoli. L’esposizione includerà opere dei primi imperi, incluse le prime rappresentazioni figurative, come la Principessa Battriana, realizzata in Asia Centrale alla fine del III millennio a.C., pratiche funerarie dell’antico Egitto con opere come il complesso di sarcofagi della principessa Henuttaui e la creazione di nuove economie con la Decadramma di Siracusa, una moneta realizzata dall’artista Eveneto.
