Looking forward to the opening of the 57° edition of Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan (17 – 22 April), on April 9th at the Triennale of Milan was presented the report “Design economy” of the Symbola Foundation, observatory on the sector, that confirmed the privileged position of Italy.
To talk about it the Symbola Foundation president Ermete Realacci and the director Domenico Sturabotti, joined by Stefano Boeri, president of the Triennale and Stefano Bordone, vice-president of Federlegno Arredo.
According to the report, the number of firms active in the sector, about 29 thousand, puts Italy in the first place followed by Germany and France with 26 thousand companies, England, with 21 thousand, and Spain with only 5 thousand companies.
With its 4.3 billion euros in revenue, equivalent to 0.3% of GDP, Italy is in the second place after the United Kingdom (€7.8 billion) among the big European economies, ahead of Germany (€3.8 billion), France (€2.1 billion) and Spain (1.1 billion).
In Europe, one employee out of six is Italian and we can count on over 48 thousand workers in the sector (16.6% of the European total). We are on the third place considering the turnover per employee which in Italy is about 90 thousand euros higher than the community net value of 87.255 euro, exceeded only by Spain and the United Kingdom.Moreover Italy is in the second place for the number of design patents.
The Italian design is one of the most serious strategies to react to the economic crisis: considering the more than 179 thousand firms of European design that have produced a turnover of more than € 25 billion, one out of six speaks Italian.

In attesa dell’apertura della 57° edizione del Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano (17 – 22 aprile), il 9 aprile alla Triennale di Milano è stato presentato il rapporto “Design economy” di Fondazione Symbola, osservatorio sul settore che ha confermato la leadership italiana nel design.
A presentarlo il presidente Ermete Realacci e il direttore Domenico Sturabotti, affiancati da Stefano Boeri, presidente della Triennale e da Stefano Bordone, vicepresidente di Federlegno Arredo.
Secondo il rapporto il numero di imprese attive nel settore, circa 29 mila, colloca l’Italia al primo posto seguita dalla Germania e dalla Francia con 26 mila aziende, dall’Inghilterra con 21 mila e molto distanziata, dalla Spagna con 5 mila.
Con i suoi 4,3 miliardi di euro di fatturato, pari allo 0,3% del PIL, l’Italia è seconda, dopo il Regno Unito (7,8 miliardi di euro) tra le grandi economie europee, davanti a Germania (3,8 miliardi), la Francia (2,1 miliardi) e Spagna (1,1 miliardi).
In tutt’Europa un addetto su sei è italiano e in totale possiamo contare su oltre 48 mila lavoratori del settore (il 16,6 % del totale europeo). Siamo al terzo posto considerando il fatturato per addetto che in Italia è di circa 90 mila euro superiore al valore netto comunitario che si attesta sugli 87.255 euro, superati solo dalla Spagna e dal Regno Unito. L’Italia è al secondo posto per il numero di brevetti di design.
Il design italiano si conferma quindi come una delle più serie strategie anticrisi: tra le oltre 179 mila imprese europee di design che hanno prodotto un fatturato superiore ai 25 miliardi di euro, una su sei parla Italiano.
