The Kilden Performing Arts in Kristiansand, Norway, is a center that brings together under the same roof all the regional institutions that deal with arts.
The building includes a concert hall with 1200 seats, a theatre for 700 spectators, a smallest theatre and a multipurpose room. The core of the architectural project is given by the way the rooms interact with the sideways spaces. The organization of the service areas allows the different rooms to share the same production equipment in an efficient manner and without interference.
The lower surface of the auditorium has a curved wooden finishing covering the foyer and the front entrance area on the pier, while the coating in black aluminum of the other facades emphasizes the wonders of the foyer.
The concert hall is a box of dark color. The walls are covered with a succession of faceted elements in black fiber cement, properly shaping the space in terms of acoustics. The audience and the performers are surrounded by elements made of light wood thus giving a most delicate modulation to the walls. The theatre, which also have an excellent acoustic has a more experimental carachter encouraging viewers to immerse themselves in the performance. Even the smaller rooms have their own distinctive traits.

L‘edificio comprende una sala da concerto con 1200 posti, un teatro da 700 spettatori, un teatro più piccolo e una sala polivalente. Il nucleo del progetto architettonico è dato dal modo in cui le sale interagiscono con gli spazi di supporto. L‘organizzazione degli ambienti di servizio consente alle diverse sale di condividere le stesse attrezzature di produzione in modo efficiente e senza interferenze.
La superficie inferiore degli auditorium presenta un rivestimento in legno curvilineo a copertura del foyer e dell‘antistante area d‘ingresso sul molo, mentre il rivestimento in alluminio nero delle altre facciate mette in evidenza lo spettacolo del foyer.
La sala da concerto è un volume scatolare di colore scuro. Le pareti sono rivestite da un susseguirsi di elementi sfaccettati in fibrocemento nero, che plasmano opportunamente lo spazio in funzione dell‘acustica. Il pubblico e gli interpreti sono circondati da elementi in legno leggero con una modulazione più delicata delle superfici. Il teatro, che gode anch‘esso di un‘acustica eccellente presenta un carattere più sperimentale, incoraggiando gli spettatori a immergersi nelle performance, mentre anche le sale più piccole hanno dei propri tratti distintivi.
