Tirpiz is an underground museum on the west coast of Denmark, near a German bunker of the Second World War. This new structure, hidden and invisible, hosts four exhibitions conceived by the Dutch agency Tinker Imagineers, focused on permanent and temporary experiences describing the story of the dramatic past of this place.
The 2,800 square meters new cultural complex designed by BIG to Blåvand is integrated in the landscape and hides itself inside of it, almost imperceptible to the visitor approaching from far away. Two cuts in the ground indicate the entrance to the underground tunnel, while providing plenty of light to the basement.
The choice of creating a structure that is discrete and invisible comes from the desire not to want to tamper with the existing structure of the bunker, an hermetically sealed object with heavy and monolithic forms inviting to the lightness and openness of a place otherwise crystallized in his past.
TIRPITZ
Tirpiz è un museo sotterraneo sulla costa occidentale della Danimarca, in prossimità di un bunker tedesco della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Questa nuova struttura, nascosta e invisibile, ospita quattro esposizioni concepite dall’agenzia olandese Tinker Imagineers, esperienze permanenti e temporanee che raccontano il drammatico passato del luogo.
Il nuovo complesso culturale, progettato da BIG a Blåvand, si articola su 2.800 mq, integrandosi con il paesaggio e nascondendosi dentro di esso, quasi da risultare impercettibile al visitatore che da lontano vi si avvicina. Due tagli nel terreno indicano l’ingresso alla galleria sotterranea, conferendo al tempo stesso abbondante luce ai piani interrati.
La scelta di creare una struttura discreta e invisibile nasce dalla volontà di non voler intaccare la struttura preesistente del bunker, oggetto ermetico dalle forme pesanti e monolitiche, invitando alla leggerezza e all’apertura di un luogo altrimenti cristallizzato nel suo passato.
