This very particular name refers to a large and ambitious project by the Sauerbruch Hutton architecture studio in Helsinki. The project, partly already delivered, aims to redevelop the Jätkäsaari district.

Low2No. is an approach to engineering and construction that translates into a sustainable environment and creates the conditions for ecological urban life. It is an abandoned 100 hectare port area. The idea is to create a new urban district including premises, offices, shops and apartments.

The buildings are mainly characterized by clean lines, bright colors and above all by their low impact on the environment. Low2No. indeed includes low energy and low carbon buildings, but energy efficiency here is only one dimension of sustainability in urban planning. The key is encouraging consumption patterns that minimize the environmental burden. The aim is to influence people’s preconceptions about residential areas and create new conditions for construction and life. These development efforts will create a new urban culture and a new way of life.
