The City Pavillion (2012) is a large, open building in the shadow of the Belfry, the Town Hall and St. Nicholas’ Church. The building is part of of a larger urban development project by the Ghent-based architectural firm Robbrecht & Daem – Marie-José Van Hee.
The pioneering design boasts a striking roof structure which spans 40 meters and contains 1600 small windows. The city once again demonstated its headstrong character with this design. Although the residents quickly took this striking building to heart, it was soon given the mocking nickname of “the sheep pen”. Nevertheless, Ghent’s City Pavillion has already won the Belgian Architectural Award and the Jo Crepain Award, and was finalist in the European Union’s Mies vad der Rohe Award.
Il City Pavillion (2012) è una grande costruzione aperta che sorge all’ombra del Belfry, del Municipio e della chiesa di St. Nicholas. L’edificio fa parte di un progetto urbano più ampio realizzato dallo studio di architettura Robbrecht & Daem – Marie-José Van Hee che ha sede a Gant, nelle Fiandre.
Il design pioneristico mostra una sorprendente struttura del tetto che si estende per 40 metri e presenta 1600 finestrelle. Con questo design la città ancora una volta ha dimostrato tutto il proprio carattere. Malgrado i residenti si siano subito affezionati a questo strabiliante edificio, gli hanno subito attribuito l’ironico soprannome di “la penna della pecora”. Nel frattempo il City Pavillion di Gant ha già vinto il Belgian Architectural Award e il Jo Crepain Award ed è entrato nella rosa dei finalisti per il European Union’s Mies van der Rohe Award.
