Inside the old ticket office and foyer of the historic Kursaal Theater in the center of Bari there is now a new restaurant and american bar. It is called La Biglietteria (the Ticket Office) and is the result of the design of the local studio SMALL – soft Metropolitan Architecture & Landscape Lab.
The restaurant revisits the rooms in New Deco style, enhancing what remains of the original structure.
The former Kursaal Theater represents one of the iconic buildings of the city center. Designed in late Liberty style and inaugurated in 1925, the building was later renovated in the late 80s by Paolo Portoghesi who inserted the emblematic curved wooden decorations of the three glass doors, facing the sea.
The declared inspiration of natural forms typical of the aesthetic flapper of America ’20 pays tribute to the lavish past of the theater. The back wall of the restaurant area is characterized by decorations with broken arches alternating mirrors, colored coatings and inserts with Vienna straw.
Most of the furniture was custom made by local craftsmen, using precious materials. The chandeliers repropose in a minimal key the classic design of antique candlesticks. The lamps suspended above the counter are designed by Laura Alesi e Silvia Braconi for Karman.
In the bathrooms an intriguing neo Victorian wallpaper is decorated with a pattern consisting of a thousand eyes that seem to maliciously observe customers.

Il ristorante rivisita in stile New Déco gli ambienti, valorizzando quanto rimasto della struttura originaria
L’ex Teatro Kursaal rappresenta uno degli edifici iconici del centro della città. Progettato in stile tardo Liberty e inaugurato nel 1925, l’edificio fu successivamente ristrutturato a fine anni ‘80 da Paolo Portoghesi che inserì le emblematiche decorazioni in legno curvato delle tre porte a vetri, orientato verso il mare.
La dichiarata ispirazione a forme naturali protagoniste dell’estetica flapper dell’America anni ‘20 rende omaggio al fastoso passato del teatro. La parete di fondo dell’area ristorante è caratterizzata da decorazioni ad archi spezzati che alternano specchi, rivestimenti colorati e inserti con paglia di Vienna.
La maggior parte degli arredi è stata realizzata su misura da artigiani locali, utilizzando materiali pregiati. I lampadari chandelier ripropongono in chiave minimal il design classico dei candelabri antichi. Le lampade sospese sopra il bancone sono disegnate da Laura Alesi e Silvia Braconi per Karman.
Nei bagni, un intrigante parato neo vittoriano è decorato con un pattern composto da mille occhi che sembrano osservare maliziosamente i clienti.
